The DESERT INN opened in 1950 as the fifth resort on The Las Vegas Strip.
WILBUR CLARK was the original owner and visionary of the Desert Inn
Home of the world famous golf course played by numerous celebrities
In 1951, FRANK SINATRA made his Vegas debut at the DI.
In 1964, due to his failing health, Wilbur Clark sold the DI to Moe Dalitz.
HOWARD HUGHES added to its fame. Originally, Mr. Hughes in the penthouse (1966), and when he was asked to leave, he purchased it (1967)!
After acquiring the Desert Inn, Howard Hughes started purchasing other hotel/casinos on the Vegas Strip.
The Desert Inn closed its doors in 2000.
On April 28, 2005, Steve Wynn's "Wynn" Casino Resort opened at the site.
