Description
Welcome To Jack's Stuff Emporium, where you never know what you'll find. Up For sale Jack has this Playmate Soap Sign (HSE) "Makes Play of the Work" Tacoma Brewing National 1927 - Playmate Soap started production around 1914 to 1916, when alcohol was prohibited in Washington State. The Tacoma Brewing Company (Founded 1897) began making soap and moved brewery operations to San Francisco. When prohibition started nation wide all breweries converted to soap manufacture. Playmate Soap lasted until 1930 as far as I can tell. This sign is rare. I am told the (dark blue part of the sign) is blown glass (a process where ground glass is applied with paint to the surface. The sign is tin and you can see the sparkles of glass in the sunlight. There are some wrinkles in the metal and loss of paint. There is also dirt that could be cleaned off, but due tot he delicate nature of the sign I did not attempt to clean it whatsoever. The photo of the old trucks is a historical photo of the brewery after it was converted for soap manufacture. Framed it is 25 & 7/8" by 17 & 1/8"NOTE: the number in the title and/or description in parenthesis for inventory purposes only.
